Roda Golf Summer 2026: July Events Just Announced
July at Roda Golf is properly busy now. The resort's social calendar just dropped and there's enough going on to fill three weeks, not just the odd weekend. If you're planning a visit or already staying nearby, here's what's worth booking and what's worth skipping.
What's Happening at Roda Golf in July 2026
The big news is the return of the Summer Classic Stableford Series, running every Tuesday and Thursday through July. Entry is open to resort guests and visiting players, and the format suits higher handicappers well. You don't need to be part of a club group to join; turn up at the pro shop before 8am and they'll slot you in. Green fees for the series are bundled at a slight discount versus walk-up rates, which is worth knowing if you're planning four or five rounds.
The Saturday evening BBQ events on the terrace are back too. Last year these filled up faster than the organisers expected, so the advice from people who've been before is simple: book the Saturday session when you arrive, not the day before you want to go. The kitchen does a proper job with the local lamb and there's usually a live guitarist from about nine onwards. It runs until midnight but the real crowd thins out around eleven, which is fine if you've got a 7am tee time the next morning.
For families, the resort is running junior golf clinics every Monday and Wednesday morning from 9 until 11. These are pitched at ages 7-14 and run in small groups of six. The PGA professionals leading them are patient with beginners and it keeps kids meaningfully occupied during the hottest part of the morning. Parents can take that time to play nine holes or sit by the pool without guilt.
One addition that's new for 2026 is the Sunset Scramble, a four-ball competition kicking off at 6:30pm on selected dates. This is the format to book if you want to actually enjoy your golf in July rather than survive it. The course plays completely differently in the evening light and temperatures drop to something manageable by the back nine. Dates are the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th of July. Get on the list early.
San Javier Jazz Festival: Don't Sleep On It
This one happens every July and a surprising number of Roda Golf visitors miss it entirely because nobody at the resort mentions it. The San Javier Jazz Festival takes place in the open-air theatre in the town centre, about a twelve-minute drive from the resort. It's free to attend, it's properly good, and the atmosphere on a warm July night is hard to beat.
Acts play from around 10pm, which is normal for Spain but catches some visitors off guard. Grab dinner first at one of the restaurants on the paseo near the waterfront and walk over when things start. Don't drive back late if you've had a few; a taxi from San Javier to the resort will cost you about six or seven euros.
The festival runs across multiple weekends through July. Check the Ayuntamiento de San Javier website for specific dates as these are confirmed closer to the time. Genres range from traditional jazz to Latin and fusion, and the quality of the headliners has been strong for the past three years running.
The Heat: What Locals Actually Do in July
This is the bit the tourist guides always get wrong. They list all the midday activities without acknowledging that July in the Mar Menor means 38 to 42 degrees celsius between noon and five. Locals don't do midday. Full stop.
The people who live here year-round are on the golf course before 8am or they're not playing at all. By 11am, the smart move is back to the pool, inside with the air conditioning, or down at the beach getting into the Mar Menor, which by July is bath-warm and dead calm. Santiago de la Ribera's beach is the quieter alternative to the busier stretches near Los Alcazares if you want to avoid peak crowds.
The evening comes alive properly from about 7pm. The paseo in Los Alcazares fills up, the chiringuitos on the beach get going, and people eat late. If you're booking a restaurant for 8pm you'll often be the only ones in there. Ten or ten-thirty is when Spanish locals sit down. It's worth adjusting your rhythm by day two or three; you'll enjoy the evenings far more.
For those staying in holiday rentals near Roda Golf, the self-catering setup works particularly well in July because you can shop at the Wednesday market in Los Alcazares early in the morning and cook at home during the heat of the day. The market has good local produce: tomatoes, peaches, fresh fish from the boats at Lo Pagan. It beats a supermarket run in the afternoon heat by some distance.
Booking Ahead in July: What Actually Sells Out
July is high season and some things do fill up fast, but not everything. Here's where to prioritise.
The Sunset Scramble dates will go. Book through the pro shop directly, not via third-party golf booking sites. The junior clinics also have limited spaces, so if you've got kids, confirm those when you arrive. Tee times for weekend morning slots at Roda Golf and the nearby courses on the Costa Cálida should be locked in at least three to four days out. Weekday mornings are more flexible, but don't assume you can walk on at 7am on a Saturday without a booking.
Restaurant reservations matter more than people expect. The popular spots in Los Alcazares and San Javier get genuinely full on Friday and Saturday evenings. A quick call on Wednesday or Thursday sorts it. Most places speak enough English to take a reservation over the phone, or ask your rental host to call on your behalf.
If you're still sorting accommodation, it's worth moving soon. July availability around the resort is tightening up. The Roda Golf rental enquiry team can advise on what's still open for specific dates.
One last thing: the Feria de Santiago falls on the 25th of July. San Javier celebrates the feast of St James with processions, music and fireworks. Expect some road closures around the town centre that evening. It's worth watching from the waterfront if you're up for it, but worth knowing about if you need to drive anywhere quickly.
