Why This Quiet Corner of Spain Keeps Winning Golfers Over

Plan Your Golf Trip

Interested in playing golf in Murcia? Let us help you arrange tee times, transfers, and accommodation.

Why Murcia Works So Well for Golf (And Why People Keep Returning)

Everyone compares it to the Costa del Sol. Fair enough — that's the obvious reference point.

But Murcia feels calmer. Less polished. Less busy. You don't get that conveyor-belt golf feeling where every tee time is stacked back-to-back and marshals are constantly rushing groups along.

Here, you can actually enjoy the round.

The weather helps. Winters are mild enough that locals barely bother with jumpers. Summers are hot, yes, but early mornings and late afternoons are more than playable. Spring and autumn? Pretty much perfect.

It's why so many people book golf holidays in Murcia, then quietly come back the following year without making a big song and dance about it.

The Courses Everyone Talks About (For Good Reason)

La Manga Club – Still the Benchmark

La Manga is the obvious starting point. Three courses. Three very different days of golf.

South Course

This is the "proper" one. Championship length, wide fairways, then trouble exactly where you don't want it. It's fair, but it doesn't forgive laziness. The views don't hurt either.

North Course

Shorter. Friendlier. Ideal if you're playing with mixed abilities or just want a round that doesn't feel like work.

West Course

My personal favourite. Some people disagree. That's fine. It's tighter, more undulating, and feels more interesting shot-for-shot — especially on the back nine.

Stay on-site and you've got everything sorted. Golf, food, downtime. No logistics headaches.

El Valle Golf – One of Those Courses You Remember

El Valle feels different from the car park onwards.

It's a Jack Nicklaus design, and it shows — big bunkering, bold shaping, greens that ask awkward questions. On paper it looks forgiving. In reality, your approach play needs to be switched on.

I've seen plenty of decent golfers score well here. I've also seen rounds unravel quickly. That's kind of the charm.

If you're picking just one Nicklaus course in Murcia, this is usually the one people recommend first.

Hacienda del Álamo – Longer Than You Expect

Hacienda del Álamo doesn't get hyped as much as La Manga or El Valle, which is probably why it surprises people.

It's long. Properly long. But it's not just a slog. Dave Thomas designed it so you're constantly making decisions — especially on the back nine, where risk-reward holes appear exactly when fatigue sets in.

If you like courses that make you think late in the round, this one's worth the effort.

Other Murcia Courses Worth Playing (Depending on Taste)

Not every course suits everyone. That's fine. These are the ones that regularly get mentioned for different reasons:

  • Mar Menor Golf – Resort-style, lots of water, very playable.
  • Alhama Signature – Big, demanding, and not subtle.
  • Roda Golf – Near the coast, consistently good condition, excellent value.
  • Saurines de la Torre – Desert-style, bold carries, very distinctive.
  • La Serena – Coastal breezes add a different challenge.
  • Hacienda Riquelme – Relaxed, open, and enjoyable without being easy.

Murcia Golf Resorts: Convenience Without the Chaos

One of the underrated things about Murcia is how simple it is to stay on or near the course.

La Manga is the obvious all-in-one option. Mar Menor works well if you want villa-style accommodation. Polaris World resorts suit groups who like gated communities and shared facilities.

If you prefer flexibility, staying off-resort and driving is easy. Distances are short. Parking is rarely stressful. That alone makes the trip feel more relaxed.

Looking for somewhere to stay? Browse our holiday rentals at Roda Golf Resort – apartments and villas just minutes from the first tee.

Planning a Golf Trip to Murcia (The Simple Version)

Most people fly into Murcia (RMU) or Alicante (ALC). Hire a car. Pick a base. Play.

Typical Murcia golf packages include 3–5 rounds and accommodation. Midweek and off-season deals are noticeably cheaper, often without any drop in course quality.

And if you need a non-golf day? Cartagena is well worth a visit. The food scene is better than people expect. Or just do nothing. Murcia is good for that too.
