Roda Golf Resort Spring 2026: Exciting New Updates Await
March is here, and if you've been waiting for the right time to visit Roda Golf and Beach Resort, stop waiting. Spring in this corner of Murcia is genuinely different to the shoulder seasons elsewhere on Spain's coast. The Mar Menor is calm, the golf course is in peak condition, and the crowds that descend in July are still a few months away. This is the window the locals quietly keep to themselves.
So what's actually changed at Roda this spring? Quite a bit, as it turns out. Here's what you need to know before you book.
The Golf Course: Why Spring Is the Sweet Spot
The Roda Golf course plays differently in spring. After the cooler, wetter winter months, the fairways come back with proper colour and the greens run truer. Temperatures sit comfortably between 18°C and 24°C through March and April, which means you can play a full 18 holes without the mid-afternoon misery of a Spanish summer round. Early tee times are popular, but honestly, a 10am start in March is perfectly comfortable here.
The course itself benefits from the mild winter we've had this year. Drainage across the back nine has been improved over the past few months, and a few of the greens that were showing wear by last autumn have been well-maintained over winter. You'll notice the difference on the approach shots around holes 12 to 15 in particular. If you're planning to play multiple rounds during your stay, book at least one late afternoon slot. The light across the Mar Menor from the higher holes as the sun drops is genuinely something else.
For everything you need on the golf courses near Roda Golf Resort, including course layouts, difficulty ratings, and nearby alternatives in the Murcia region, it's worth checking that section before you travel. There are more options within 30 minutes of the resort than most visitors realise.
What's New at the Resort and Around Los Alcázares
The resort's outdoor pool area reopens properly from late March, which is earlier than most people expect. The Mar Menor itself is already swimmable for the hardy types (locals here consider anything above 17°C fair game), and by April the water temperature is genuinely pleasant. The beach at Roda faces the inner sea, which means it's calmer and warmer than the Mediterranean beaches you'll find over on the other side of La Manga.
Over in Los Alcázares, the Wednesday market on the paseo has expanded its footprint this spring. It runs along the seafront from about 9am until early afternoon, and it's properly good for fresh produce, local ceramics, and the kind of household oddities that make you wonder who's buying them. Go early if you want the best of the fish stalls.
A few of the chiringuitos along the Los Alcázares promenade that closed for winter have started opening their kitchens again from this month. Bar El Paseo and the little place on the corner near the sailing club are both worth a stop after a morning walk. The rice dishes in this area use locally-caught fish from the Mar Menor, which tastes noticeably different to the farmed alternatives you get elsewhere. Don't skip the caldero if it's on the menu.
Santiago de la Ribera is worth the short drive too, especially on a weekend morning. The strip along the waterfront is less commercialised than Los Alcázares and the coffee at the café near the old wooden jetty is good. The jetty itself is one of those spots that doesn't make it into any guidebook but is genuinely lovely early in the morning before anyone else is around.
Practical Bits Before You Arrive
Spring brings the first proper crowds to Murcia Airport from around mid-March onwards, so allow a bit more time on both arrivals and departures than you might expect. The airport is still relatively small and manageable, but the car hire queues can drag on a Friday afternoon. If you're hiring a car, booking well in advance makes a real difference in price this time of year.
The salt flats at Lo Pagan, about 20 minutes north of the resort, are worth a visit in spring specifically. The flamingos are usually present in decent numbers through March and April, and the famous mud baths on the shore are open. It's one of those slightly strange, genuinely local experiences that most visitors to the resort never make it to. The mud is supposedly good for the skin. Whether that's true or not, it's entertaining.
If you're considering staying for a week or more rather than just a short break, spring is the season where that extra time really pays off. You can actually get into a rhythm here: golf in the mornings, long lunches with a glass of local Jumilla wine, an hour or two on the beach in the afternoon, and a proper dinner in the evening without feeling rushed. The holiday rentals near Roda Golf are far better value in spring than in the peak summer weeks, and the atmosphere is calmer across the board.
Getting the Most Out of a Spring Visit
A few things that don't get mentioned enough:
The Wednesday and Saturday markets in Cartagena are both worth a trip if you're here for more than a few days. Cartagena is about 30 minutes south of the resort and the Roman ruins in the city centre are far more impressive than most visitors expect. The theatre alone is worth an hour of anyone's time. Combine it with lunch in the old town and you've got a solid day out.
Murcia city itself runs a flower festival in mid-spring (the Bando de la Huerta and the Entierro de la Sardina celebrations in late March and early April). It's genuinely one of the more unusual local festivals in this part of Spain, involving an enormous sardine effigy being paraded and ceremonially buried. It sounds odd because it is odd, but the atmosphere in the city during those few days is worth experiencing.
If you're still deciding on logistics or have questions about what's on and when during your stay, the enquiry form is the quickest route to a straightforward answer. And for broader background on the area and what the Costa Calida has to offer, the area guide covers the practical geography well.
Spring 2026 at Roda Golf is shaping up properly. Get in before the summer pricing kicks in and the July crowds arrive. You'll be glad you did.
